Dell Family Law, P.C. is looking for an organized, systematic, self-motivated, and enthusiastic experienced paralegal who takes initiative and is assertive about solving problems.----The right candidate will be the force that keeps our cases moving toward resolution.

Responsibilities:
Hours:Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
SC Family Court does not have e-filing so this position requires being physically present in the firm's office for the probationary period; this is Not a remote position.
[After the probationary period, schedule flexibility and remote work can be considered.]
Client-Focused Tasks:
--- Answer appropriate questions from clients and elevate other questions to the attorney
--- Collect, review, and summarize detailed factual information to support the client's claims
--- Identify authorizations needed from clients to obtain records, and get them signed by clients
--- Prompt clients to respond timely to discovery requests and minimize extensions
--- Assist in preparing specific court-required documents
--- Contact clients to update them on the status of their cases

Case Management Tasks:
--- Maintain a calendar of case deadlines and ensure they are met
--- Coordinate with other offices to schedule court appearances, mediations, client meetings, and telephone conferences
--- Draft initial pleadings, affidavits, and discovery requests based on each client's goals and the attorney's direction
--- Send effective and professional e-mails and other, more formal, correspondence
--- Research third-party entities
--- Draft and serve subpoenas in compliance with Rule 45, SCRCP
--- Obtain records from various agencies in accordance with federal and state law
--- Save materials/documents to each client's file (in accordance with the firm's procedures)
--- Draft responses to opposing parties' discovery requests and maintain indexes of responses
--- Organize documents received from clients and third parties, and maintain indexes of discovery responses
--- Prepare Rule 21 hearing packets for submission (in accordance with the firm's checklists)
--- Assist in preparation for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials (in accordance with the firm's procedures)

Administrative/Team/Financial Tasks:
--- Capture and record billable tasks accurately and concurrently
--- Write billable time entries to convey how the activity moved the case forward (in accordance with the firm's procedures)
--- Contribute to a collaborative office culture

Marketing Tasks:
--- Write at least 3 notes per month to colleagues, clients, friends, and acquaintances to solidify relationships
--- Occasionally participate in pictures, video recordings, and/or audio recordings for use in the firm's marketing

Other Tasks:
--- Manage emotional, discourteous, demanding, and/or dissatisfied clients and lawyers while remaining polite and professional
--- Contribute to improvements in the firm's systems (including policies and procedures, examples, templates, scripts, diagrams, workflows, and videos)
--- Greet persons who enter the firm's suite and either welcome them or politely refuse entry, as needed

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
--- High school education or equivalent
--- At least 4 years of experience at an SC firm whose practice is at least 35% Family Court cases
--- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
--- Familiarity with Mac/OSX computing
--- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
--- Familiarity with the South Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure and Rules of Family Court
--- Strong written and verbal communication skills
--- Ability to learn quickly
--- Ability to meet deadlines
--- Ability to work independently and sometimes with minimal direction

Desired/Preferred Skills and Experience:
--- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree
--- Experience in litigation practice
--- Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat
--- Familiarity with cloud-based computing
--- Familiarity with law firm management software (e.g. Clio, Amicus, Lawcus, Smokeball, Time Matters, Rocket Matter)
