Sodexo is looking for a Cook I at East Cooper Medical Center to work 5:00am - 1:00pm or 10:00am - 6:00pm!Job Overview:

The Cook I will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods: to include Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special/Catered Events. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Sodexo may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.

General Responsibilities:


  • Prepares and cooks to order foods that may require short preparation time.
  • May prepare food and serve customers at an a la carte and may operate a grill station.
  • Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards,guidelines and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided.
  • Reads food order or receives verbal instructions on food required by patron, and prepares andcooks food according to instructions.
  • Provides the highest quality of service to customers at all times.
  • Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting,carving and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs for consumption ineating establishments.
  • Prepares foods under direct supervision or instruction by operating a variety of kitchenequipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits andvegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry or fish for culinary use.
  • Tastes products, reads menus, estimates food requirements, checks production, and keepsrecords in order to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies andequipment.
  • May clean and sanitize work stations and equipment and must follow all Sodexo, client andregulatory rules and procedures.
  • Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.
  • Complies with all Sodexo HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • May receive inventory, move and lift foodstuffs and supplies and prepare meals for customersrequiring special diets.
  • May produce some batch goods using basic cooking techniques.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.



    Job Qualifications:

    Experience/Knowledge:


    • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred.
    • 0 to 2 years of related work experience.
    • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and cash-handling procedures preferred.

          Physical Requirements:


          • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
          • Significant walking or other means of mobility.
          • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
          • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.


            Working Conditions:


            • Generally in an indoor setting; however, may supervise outside activities and events.
            • Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates.
            • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.
            • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

              Responsabilidades generales:

              • Prepara y cocina a pedido los alimentos que requieren poco tiempo de preparaci--n.
              • Puede preparar alimentos y atender a los clientes que pidan a la carta y manejar el asador.
              • Prepara los alimentos de acuerdo con las normas federales, estatales y corporativas, y pautas y reglamentaciones actuales y vigentes para asegurarse de que se brinde un servicio de comidas de buena calidad.
              • Lee los pedidos de alimentos o recibe instrucciones verbales sobre la comida que solicitan los patrones, y prepara y cocina los alimentos de acuerdo con las instrucciones.
              • En todo momento, proporciona la mejor calidad de servicio a los clientes.
              • Sigue las recetas b--sicas o las indicaciones del producto para preparar, condimentar, cocinar, degustar, cortar en rodajas y servir sopas, carnes, verduras, postres y otros alimentos de consumo en los lugares de comida.
              • Prepara los alimentos con supervisi--n directa o indicaciones al manejar una serie de equipos de cocina para medir y mezclar ingredientes, lavar, pelar, cortar y triturar frutas y verduras, y cortar y recortar carne, aves o pescados para uso culinario.
              • Prueba los productos, lee el men--, eval--a los requisitos de los alimentos, controla la producci--n y lleva un registro para planificar correctamente los requisitos de producci--n, y solicitar art--culos y equipos.
              • Puede limpiar y desinfectar las estaciones de trabajo y los equipos, y debe seguir las normas y los procedimientos reglamentarios de Sodexo y del cliente.
              • Asiste a todas las capacitaciones sobre alergias e infecciones alimentarias en servicio.
              • Cumple con todas las pol--ticas y procedimientos del An--lisis de Peligros y Puntos de Control Cr--ticos (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point, HACCP) de Sodexo.
              • Informa cualesquiera accidentes y lesiones puntualmente.
              • Cumple con cualesquiera pol--ticas y procedimientos de gesti--n de riesgos y seguridad de la compa----a.
              • Participa en reuniones de seguridad habituales, capacitaci--n en seguridad y evaluaciones de peligros.
              • Asiste a programas de capacitaci--n (en el aula y virtuales) conforme se haya designado.
              • Puede recibir inventario, mover y levantar alimentos y art--culos y preparar comidas para los clientes que necesiten dietas especiales.
              • Puede producir tandas de productos con las t--cnicas b--sicas de cocina.
              • Puede desempe--ar otros deberes y responsabilidades conforme se haya asignado.

                Calificaciones laborales:

                Experiencia/conocimiento:

                • Se prefiere Diploma de bachillerato, diploma de educaci--n general (General Education Diploma, GED) o equivalente.
                • 0 a 2 a--os de experiencia laboral relevante.
                • Conocimiento de manejo b--sico de los equipos y los procedimientos preferentes para el manejo de efectivo.

                  Habilidades/aptitud:

                  • Se presenta de un modo profesional ante los dem--s y comprende que la honestidad y la --tica son esenciales.
                  • Capacidad de mantener una actitud positiva.

                      • Capacidad de trabajar en una posici--n de pie durante per--odos de tiempo extensos (hasta 8 horas).
                      • Capacidad de alcanzar, doblarse, agacharse, empujar y/o halar, y con frecuencia levantar hasta 35 libras y ocasionalmente levantar/mover 40 libras.

                        • Generalmente en un ambiente bajo techo; no obstante, puede supervisar actividades y eventos al aire libre.
