Job Description Summary The work of the Simulation Specialist
will originate from the MUSC HSC Operations Manager and Senior
Simulation Specialist. The Simulation Specialist reports to the
MUSC HSC Operations Manager The Simulation Specialist will adhere
to all deadlines, particularly when related to simulation
activities. The Simulation Specialist will interface with many
individuals, including faculty, trainees, technical and
administrative personnel from MUSC and external clients. Entity

Responsibilities include: Performing room setup according to
established best practices, protocols and set up guides, Verifying
all required scenarios, simulators, required equipment and
materials are present and working properly for each activity.
Performing room take-down, ensuring room cleanliness and proper
equipment and material storage. Answering calls for technical
support in a timely manner. Operating and troubleshooting
simulators (including manikins and task trainers), simulated
monitors, simulation software, and other related equipment and
materials. Performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs on
simulators in accordance with manufacturers’ best practice.
Assisting with training facilitators on the safe, proper use of
simulators, peripheral equipment, software, simulated medications,
and other materials used during simulation-based activities.
Provide excellent service, supporting faculty, staff, facilitators,
learners, and visitors engaged in MUSC HSC activities. 1. Perform
error- free room setup and takedown, maintain clean and functioning
facilities, and ensure properly functioning equipment, scenarios,
and simulation environments according to best practices, protocols,
and set-up guides. Directly support the creation, implementation,
and quality improvement of all simulation activities within the
MUSC Healthcare Simulation Center, including in situ simulations
outside of the center. (35%) 2. Work directly and communicate
effectively with faculty and staff from across the MUSC enterprise,
external clients, and all members of the MUSC Healthcare Simulation
Center staff to ensure high quality, successful simulation
experiences for all learners and facilitators. Provide prompt
technical support for facilitators and learners. Assist with
training facilitators on the safe, proper use of simulators,
peripheral equipment, software, simulated medications, and other
materials used during simulation-based activities. (25%) 3.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on a wide range
of healthcare simulation equipment, including simulators, simulated
monitors, simulation software, and other related equipment and
materials in accordance with manufacturers’ best practices. (20%)
4. Prioritize, anticipate, and recommend supplies and equipment
needed to implement high quality simulation activities. Maintain an
orderly workroom and storage areas to ensure ready access to all
equipment and supplies needed to ensure high quality simulation
activities. (15%) 5. Perform other duties as assigned, including
assisting with special projects, and giving scheduled tours of the
HSC (5%) Additional Requirements: Primarily M-F work schedule, but
occasionally will be required to work Saturday (with another
workday off that week) depending on class schedule. Some
flexibility in the start/stop time of work for each day will be
required due to varied times of the courses on the schedule for the
day at the simulation center. Complete 6-month probationary period
following prescribed Orientation/Training Program. Additional Job
Description Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two
years experience or training within the specific work area. Some
positions require certification in CPR by the American Red Cross or
the American Heart Association. (4426 Dental Hygienist II) An
associate degree in dental hygiene and licensure by the South
Carolina State Board of Dentistry. Certification in Radiation
Safety required for positions responsible for dental x-rays.
(Special Hire Rate - $37,468) Physical Requirements: (Note: The

Ability to lift/carry patients to 350 (/-), assisted. Ability to
lift objects from floor level to height of 36 inches, to 50,
unassisted. Ability to lower objects, to 50, from height of 36
inches, unassisted. Ability to push/pull objects to 350(/-),
unassisted. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected.
(Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand.
(Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance.
(Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors.
(Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between
objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision
capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with
correction. (Continuous) Ability to hear and understand whispered
conversations at a distance of 3 feet. Ability to perform gross
motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous)
Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for
respirator use, initially and annually. Additional New
Requirements: Computer literacy. Ability to work rotating shifts.
Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new
